Can we talk about prepping for a marine boiler contract?

I've got a two-week stint in Seattle servicing ship boilers. My background is in factory systems, so I'm out of my depth. What are the big differences I should prepare for?

Oh man, the big thing is saltwater corrosion and everything moving while it runs. I mean factory boilers just sit there, but ship ones get shaken nonstop.

Question if saltwater corrosion is that big a deal. Factory systems face acid leaks and stress cracks all the time. Modern marine boilers have coatings and shock mounts. Heard most failures come from skipped inspections, not the sea itself.

Totally backing up @the_elizabeth on this one. Saltwater gets into everything, and it eats stuff you wouldn't even think about. Those fancy coatings get scratched up from normal wear, and then you have a perfect spot for rust to start. On a ship, the whole unit is shaking and flexing for months on end, which just works those weak spots open. Even with regular checks, you can miss a small spot until it becomes a big problem. The sea itself absolutely is the main issue, because it never stops working against the metal.
