Bought a used Miller welder for $400 and it saved my butt on a rush job last month

I picked up a Miller 211 from a guy off Craigslist in Gary for four hundred bucks. It had some miles on it but it fired right up when I needed to patch a tank seam at 2 AM on a Saturday. Have any of you had luck with buying used gear from online listings or is it usually a gamble?

Honestly, a 2 AM patch job on a used welder sounds more like a gamble you got lucky on than a real win. Ngl, buying gear from some rando online is usually a coin flip at best.

Have you asked to see it work before handing over cash? I always bring a piece of scrap and run a bead to check the arc before I buy anything used.
