Blown a gasket on a 40 year old boiler in a school basement last Tuesday
I was working on a old Cleaver Brooks boiler at a middle school in Gary, Indiana. The gasket on the rear door gave out while we were bringing it up to pressure, steam started pissing out everywhere. Had to kill the fire, drain it down, and cut a new gasket by hand on the floor in 20 minutes because the kids were coming back the next day. Has anyone else had to fabricate a gasket on the fly like that?

I mean, nothing says "school maintenance" like building a gasket from scratch while the clock ticks down, right? Hope you grabbed some pizza afterwards to make up for that floor time.

Had to cut a gasket for a 40 year old Cleaver Brooks myself once, used a ball peen hammer and a small chisel to rough it out of a sheet of gasket material. That 20 minute clock sounds about right when you've got a school full of kids coming back from a long weekend.
