An old hand at the yard told me my root pass looked like a spider built it

Honestly, he said my weave was too wide and my heat was all over the place, so I started using a smaller cup and keeping a tighter arc. Ngl, my last ten feet of 2-inch pipe in the Tulsa job came out way cleaner. Anyone have tips for keeping your hand steady on an overhead pass in a tight spot?

Ha, a spider built it! That's a new one. Sounds like you're already on the right track tightening things up. For overhead in a tight spot, I just try to brace my elbow against something solid, even if it's just my own ribs.

But is it really that big a deal?

Brace your elbow on your own ribs? How do you even get any real control like that?
