Tested tripod vs monopod for evening shots at the park and it wasn't even close

I went down to Piedmont Park last Saturday to catch the sunset and brought both my cheap tripod and a monopod I borrowed from a friend. The monopod helped with the shake a bit, but for anything longer than 1/30th of a second the tripod was way sharper, no contest. Makes me wonder if I should just dump $50 on a decent used tripod instead of messing with monopods for low light stuff.

Yeah the monopod is really just for stability not sharpness, grab that used tripod and you'll see a bigger difference than you expect.

lol yeah you're totally right about that. I had a monopod for like a year thinking I was being smart and stable but then I borrowed my friend's cheap used tripod and the difference was actually insane. My sharpness went up way more than I expected just from having a solid base. It's not even close honestly. I get way less missed shots now especially in low light or with longer lenses.
