Showerthought: does fixing blur in post really teach bad habits?

My friend who does film photography says sharpening in Photoshop is just covering up for bad technique, but I told him half my phone shots are blurry because I'm moving. He said get a tripod or learn to hold still, that's $20 vs hours of editing. Which side are you on, fix it in camera or fix it later?

but honestly blur in phone pics is a different beast than film where you control every variable, modern phone cameras use software to fix things already so sharpening in post is just extending that pipeline. the real bad habit comes from people who shoot in perfect conditions then rely on heavy sharpening to save a technically bad photo, not someone correcting for real world movement. a tripod wont help when youre grabbing a quick shot of your dog running by, so fix it however you need to.
