My 2022 trip to the Grand Canyon taught me that sharp photos are overrated
Three years ago I hiked the South Kaibab Trail and took about 40 photos on my phone, and every single one came out soft because my hands were shaking from the cold. The photo community keeps saying to just use a tripod, but when it's 28 degrees and you're on a narrow ledge, setting one up isn't realistic, and the shots I did get still mean more to me than any crisp landscape I've seen online. Does anyone else think we put too much weight on sharpness and not enough on just having the picture at all?
Same thing happens with food pics and concert videos. Nobody cares that the blurry shot of the band is garbage, they care that they were there and can hear the crowd screaming in the background. A too sharp photo almost feels fake after a while, like it lost the feeling of the moment. Half my favorite pics of my kid are blurry as hell and I would not trade them for anything.
