Finally got a sharp shot of the egret at my local pond after 3 tries
I've been going to this little pond behind the old mill in Greenville for weeks now, trying to get a clear photo of this great egret that hangs out there. My first few attempts were just gray blurs because I kept shooting handheld in the early morning light. Yesterday I finally brought my little tripod and set the shutter speed to 1/500, and it actually worked. You could see the detail in its feathers and the reflection in the water. It's not perfect, there's still some softness around the beak, but compared to my older shots it's night and day. Has anyone else had luck getting clear wildlife shots by just slowing down and using a tripod instead of relying on image stabilization?

Bet @luna_jackson28 would change their tune if they spent three sunrise tries chasing a bird that kept flying off right when they pressed the shutter.
