Always thought image stacking was a gimmick until my moon shot last month

I used to think software tricks were cheating, like you should just get it right in camera. But last month I tried to photograph the moon with just my phone and it came out as a blurry blob. I did 3 shots in burst mode and stacked them in free software and it actually showed craters. Has anyone else had a method they dismissed for years that finally worked?

Funny how that works with a lot of things, right? Turns out the shortcuts we ignore are sometimes the actual good path, like folding a fitted sheet the lazy way. I'm still a get-it-right-in-camera person for most stuff, but stacking is now my secret weapon for bad lighting.

Ask if you had to mess with exposure settings before you did the burst or if you just let the phone decide. I've found that locking exposure manually makes a huge difference in how well the layers actually line up and blend. What software did you use for stacking? I've been curious about trying it but there's like a dozen free options and I don't know which one actually works.
