Vent: That moment my hammer head flew off into my neighbor's yard

I was out in my garage last Saturday, trying to finish a rail bracket, when my cross peen hammer head just launched off the handle mid-swing. It flew straight through my open garage door and landed in Mrs. Gable's rose bushes next door, scaring her cat so bad it bolted up a tree. Has anyone else had a handle just give out on them like that, or was I just unlucky with this one?

My first cross peen did the same thing after about four years of fairly regular use. Check the handle where it meets the head, that's almost always where the wood dries out and shrinks enough to loosen up. Wedging it with a metal pin or epoxy is the fix if you catch it early.

Honestly, @the_jade I think you meant a metal wedge, not a pin, right?
