Took me 3 years to figure out why my anvil ring was driving me crazy
I finally realized last month that the ring wasn't from the anvil itself but from the stand bolts being loose... tightened them up and the ringing stopped instantly. Has anyone else dealt with a weird noise that turned out to be something simple?

Read somewhere that anvils are supposed to ring a bit to tell you the steel is working right, but a loose stand turns that ring into a crazy high pitched screech. I had a similar thing with a bench vise once, the mounting bolts were just a little loose and it made this awful buzzing sound every time I clamped something down. Tightened those bolts and the noise stopped, just like you said. It's funny how the simplest fix is always the one you overlook for YEARS. Glad you got it sorted out, that ringing must have been driving you up the wall.
