That older smith who corrected my hammer grip

At a demo in Tulsa last spring, a retired farrier watched me forge ten leaves and finally stepped in. He said I was choking the handle like a baseball bat and showed me a loose grip that lets the hammer drop on its own. I tried it on the next leaf and the texture came out cleaner than anything I'd made in three years. Anyone else had a random stranger's two-minute tip fix a habit you'd baked in?
