My wrists have been acting up from all the hammering... some smiths swear by braces, others say it's a sign of bad form. What do you think?

Patricia78 is spot on about the elbow doing all the work. I wore a brace for months before a grizzled old smith saw me and just shook his head. He showed me how to choke up on the hammer handle and let it swing more like a pendulum. My wrist pain vanished in a week once I stopped white-knuckling every strike. Braces are a band-aid for a broken swing.

Braces just cover up the issue, you gotta fix your hammer grip first.

Ugh, felixa18 is right on the money. Braces just get you through the day but they don't solve the real problem. I learned the hard way my elbow was doing all the work. Focus on a loose wrist and let the hammer's weight do the hitting, not your muscle.
