Just realized my anvil face is way too slick after trying a new shop in Duluth

Stopped by a shop near Lake Superior last weekend and their guy mentioned how he leaves a slight rough patch on his anvil face for draw filing, and now I'm second guessing my polished one. Has anyone else messed around with surface texture on an anvil face, or am I overthinking this?
