A guy at a flea market showed me his anvil face trick, my hammer marks vanished

Three Saturdays ago I was picking through a stall outside Boise and this old timer had a beat up anvil for sale. He saw me staring at my own hammer marks and said "stop fighting the steel, let the anvil work." He then pointed to how his face had a slight crown, not dead flat. I went home and lightly radiused mine with a flap disc, took maybe 20 minutes. Now my punches and fullers leave way cleaner impressions, less clean up time. Anyone else ever reworked their anvil face or am I crazy for touching it?

You tried fixing the hammer marks on your anvil face and it worked out that good? That's a solid move, most people are scared to touch their anvil but honestly a tiny crown makes a huge difference. I did the same thing to mine a few years back and never looked back.
