Warning: skip the last 3 chapters of The Hollow Crown if you value your sanity

I was skeptical when my buddy in Portland said the ending ruins the whole story, but I got to the final page and the narrator literally turns out to be a ghost who was lying about everything since chapter 2. Has anyone else hit a twist that retroactively makes 400 pages pointless, or is that just me?
