TIL the weirdest twist in a book can hide in the last sentence, and a librarian in Tulsa showed me how to spot it
I used to skim the final page of a novel once the main plot wrapped up, just to be done. A librarian in Tulsa pointed out that some writers stick their real gut punch in the very last line, like that one book where the whole story turns out to be a letter from someone already dead. Now I read that last paragraph twice before I close anything, because the first read is just setup. Has anyone else found a book where the last sentence flipped the whole thing?
I had that happen with a mystery where the last line revealed the narrator was the killer the whole time. Went back and reread the whole book and all these little comments suddenly made sense. Now I do the same thing you do, read the last bit twice before I put it down. Saves me from missing stuff.
