The librarian who screamed at me over a metaphor

I was returning a 700 page fantasy novel at my local branch in Portland and mentioned the final chapter felt like the author gave up on his own plot. The librarian, this older guy I'd never talked to, snapped that I missed the point because the ending was 'a meditation on entropy' and then refused to check out my next pick. Has anyone else had a stranger defend a bonkers ending so hard it made them re-read the book just to check?
