The ending of 'The Dark Tower' still divides my book club after 3 years

I used to defend King's decision to go full circle with Roland starting over, thought it was deep and poetic. But after my book club argued about it for 3 straight meetings, I started seeing their side - how it feels like a cheat that erases all the character growth. Now I lean the other way, wondering if an ending that makes people this mad is actually bad writing or just bold. Has anyone else flipped their opinion on a controversial ending after hearing other readers out?

@evan_harris14 puts it well, but if the cycle never changes, doesn't that make the journey feel pointless no matter how poetic it is?

Does the reset actually erase the growth, or does it force you to see the whole thing as a cycle where the journey matters more than the destination?
