The book that hyped up a huge twist ending but the twist was just 'it was all a dream'

I read this thriller last month where the whole 400 pages built up to some crazy reveal, but then the last chapter just said the main character was in a coma the whole time. Is that just lazy writing or am I missing some deeper meaning here?

Ugh man that's the WORST. Did the book at least have any clues dropped along the way, or did it just come completely out of nowhere?

Right around page 180 of a book I read last year, I found this small detail that made me think "wait, is this all a dream?" and sure enough that's exactly what happened. I threw the book across the room and haven't picked up another novel by that author since.
