That ending felt like the author gave up mid-sentence
Just finished a 400 page sci-fi novel and the last chapter literally ends with the main character waking up in a hospital with no explanation for anything that happened after page 350. I spent 3 hours last night reading theories online and the best anyone can figure is the editor cut 50 pages for length. Has anyone else gotten burned by a publisher-pared ending like this?

Waking up in a hospital with zero answers is the laziest trick since "it was all a dream." Sounds like the publisher did that author dirty, cutting the real ending to save money. Idk, maybe the original draft had something wild that would have tied it all together. Either way, that's a book I'm leaving on the shelf and telling everyone to skip.
