I finally read the sequel everyone warned me about

The last chapter just drops the main character into a different genre with zero explanation, like the author hit page 300 and gave up. I checked the publication date three times because it felt like a printing error from 1987. Has anyone else found a book that just switches reality in the final scene without any setup?
