Fifteen years though, that's a long time to carry a mystery around. I had a similar thing with "The Haunting of Hill House" where it took me like 10 years and three reads to catch how unreliable the narrator really was. It's kind of a bummer but also a little cool, you know, that the book had that hidden layer waiting for you all along.

Actually changed my whole way of thinking about rereading stuff. I used to be one of those people who was like "why would I read a book again when there's so many new ones out there?" but this completely flips that on its head. You get this totally different experience the second time around because you know where it's heading and can pick up on all the little clues you missed before. Plus there's something really cool about your brain just sitting on a mystery for over a decade and then suddenly having that click moment. Makes me want to go back through all my old favorites and see what I missed the first time. Your post definitely got me thinking differently about the whole thing.
