DNF'd a book at 80% and it was strangely liberating
I was grinding through this sci-fi novel set on Ganymede, 400 pages in, and the whole last act was just the main character having a 50 page conversation with a sentient rock. Life's too short, man. I closed it, donated it to the library dropbox near my bus stop, and honestly that was 3 days ago and I feel great. Anyone else ever ditched a book that close to the end and felt zero regret?

That sentient rock conversation sounds rough. Honestly, I respect the decision. There's this weird guilt people put on finishing books, like you owe the author something just because you got partway through. But reading is supposed to be enjoyment, not a chore. I dropped a mystery novel with about fifty pages left once because I figured out the killer and the writing was getting repetitive. No regrets at all, just relief. The library dropbox is a solid move too, frees up the shelf space for something better.
