Am I the only one who thinks the 'it was all a dream' endings are actually fine sometimes?
I used to trash any book that ended with a dream twist. Read a thriller in 2019 where the last chapter revealed the whole murder investigation was a coma fantasy. I was furious, threw the book across my apartment in Pittsburgh. But then I read one by a lesser known author last year where the dream ending made every clue before it hit different. Not lazy, just honest that the narrator never had control. I still hate them 80% of the time, but I stopped auto-hating the trope. Has anyone else found a specific dream ending that actually worked for them, and what made it click?

Find the pattern in life and fiction both, sometimes the twist is the only honest way to show how little control anyone really has.
