Used the wrong guard size for three years without knowing it

A customer asked why his fade looked different than last time and I realized I had been grabbing a #2 guard thinking it was a #1. The numbers wore off from dropping them so much over the years. Has anyone else had worn down guards mess with their work?

I read somewhere that dropping your clippers hard enough can actually warp the plastic guard over time, not just wear the numbers off. Makes me wonder how many of us are accidentally using the wrong size.

Wait, is that actually true about the plastic warping from dropping it? I have never heard that before in my life, and I have been cutting hair for almost a decade now. Dropping them definitely messes up the numbers over time like the original poster said, but I am pretty sure the guard itself stays the same shape unless you literally smash it with a hammer or something. Otherwise every barber who drops their stuff once a week would be buying new guards every month, you know?
