Unpopular opinion: clipper-over-comb is overused for fades

Every other barber I see at the shop reaches for clipper-over-comb as the go-to for blending. I've been cutting for 8 years in Memphis. Tried it their way for months. Kept getting lines and uneven spots. Switched back to shears and a fine-tooth comb for the blend zone. Cleaner results every time. Why is everyone so stuck on clippers for that step? Anyone else find shears work better on tighter hair?

My buddy Marcus who cuts up in Chicago spent a whole year trying to make clipper-over-comb work on his tight hair clients. He kept getting these phantom lines nobody could see until the client came back for a redo. He switched to shears and a fine tooth comb like three months ago and told me his blend zone has never been cleaner. Said he used to spend 10 minutes fighting with the clipper and now he's done in half the time. He even showed me a video and you could barely tell where the fade started. Shears just give you that extra control when the hair is really packed tight.

Man, I felt this hard. Switched to shears for the blend zone a while back and my fades got way cleaner with way less fighting it.

Wait, are you guys doing the whole cut with shears now or just the blending part?
