Tried the $15 Wahl blade oil against the $8 Andis stuff and now I get why the old timers swear by the cheap option
After a month of alternating both on my clippers, the Andis kept my blades cooler and quieter through a full Saturday of back-to-back fades, so what's the deal with the pricier Wahl stuff running hot on me?

Well now, I gotta push back a little on this one. I've been cutting hair on the side for about 15 years and I actually had the opposite experience. The Andis stuff always felt a little thinner to me, like it just evaporated off the blades after an hour or so. I ran a Wahl blade through a full Saturday doing high and tights and it stayed cool the whole time. Maybe you got a bad batch of the Wahl oil, or maybe it depends on what clippers you're running. I've seen guys swear by both, but I wouldn't write off the Wahl just yet.

Like it just evaporated off the blades" - that's exactly how I feel about Wahl oil, not Andis. I've been cutting for about 8 years now and I had the opposite experience. The Wahl stuff always felt greasy and thick to me, like it gunked up my blades after a few cuts. Andis stays slick on mine for a full day of fades with no heat issues. Maybe it's different with high and tights versus skin fades, I don't know. But I've tried both more than once and Andis won every time for me.
