Heard a guy at the coffee shop say he'd pay double for a barber who just listened
I was grabbing a coffee before my first move of the day and overheard a guy telling his friend he'd happily pay $50 for a haircut if the barber just let him talk without giving advice. It made me wonder if we're all trying to fix problems when sometimes people just want a quiet, good cut. Do you find yourself talking more or listening more with your regulars?

Ever feel like you're the one who needs the haircut just to get a break from talking? I catch myself giving advice when a client just wants to vent, gotta work on that lol. A good listener is probably worth way more than a good talker in that chair.

I'll push back on that a little. Sometimes people come to a barber specifically because they want advice, not just a haircut. I've had clients sit down and say "talk me out of calling my ex" or "do I look okay for this job interview next week?" They're looking for a real opinion. @miles_campbell39 might have a point about therapists, but in our chairs people want a human response, not just a nodding head. I think there's a middle ground where you learn to read the room and adjust, instead of automatically shutting up or automatically talking.
