Heard a dude at a barber expo say thinning shears are a crutch...

Last Saturday at the Midwest Barber Convention in Chicago, I was listening to this old school barber talk about how thinning shears are just a crutch for bad clipper work. He said he hasn't touched a pair in 20 years and gets cleaner blends with just his Wahl Seniors and a comb. Got me wondering... do you guys ever use thinning shears on a fade, or do you think they're cheating?

idk, I feel like it depends on what you're going for. like yeah you can get a clean blend with just clippers and a comb but sometimes thinning shears help take that bulk off without messing up the shape you already set.

Crutch for bad clipper work" - yeah that's me, my thinning shears are basically a safety net for my shaky hands and bad eyes.
