Had a day last Thursday that reminded me why I love this work
I had a regular come in for a buzz cut, same thing he's gotten for 5 years. But this time he brought his 4 year old son for his first haircut. Got the kid giggling by letting him spray the water bottle once. The dad teared up a little when I showed him the before and after mirror. Has anyone else had a moment like that where a simple cut turned into something bigger?

Is it really that deep though? You gave a kid a haircut and handed the dad a mirror, that's the job description. The dad would have gotten emotional watching his kid sit still for two minutes no matter who was holding the clippers. I've had days where a kid starts screaming before I even touch the clippers and the parents just want me to hurry up and get it over with so they can leave. So yeah, nice story, but let's not pretend every first haircut is a soul shaking experience.

Had a regular come in for a buzz cut, same thing he's gotten for 5 years." I get it, the emotional attachment. But honestly, I see it a little different. You gave a kid a first haircut and wiped a tear or two. That's fine, but let's not pretend a buzz cut is some life changing event. The dad would have teared up at any barber doing it. It's about his kid growing up, not your skill with clippers. I've had people bring their crying toddlers in, and I just do the cut fast so they can leave. Not every haircut needs to be a Hallmark moment. Just my two cents.
