A kid's first buzz cut changed how I do kids now

Had a 6 year old in the chair last Tuesday, mom said he was terrified of clippers. I usually just go straight in, but I pulled out a trimmer and let him hold it against his own arm first so he could feel the vibration. He laughed and asked for the full cut after that. Now I do that with every young first timer, it buys like 2 minutes but saves the whole appointment. Anyone else got a go to trick for scared kids in the chair?

Wow, you let him hold the clippers before touching his head? That's wild, I never even thought of that. Does the buzzing on the arm actually calm them down or do some kids still freak?
