Watching a baker in Portland toss a whole batch of macarons because they weren't 'perfect' made me rethink my own standards.

I used to stress over every tiny crack, but seeing $50 worth of beautiful, tasty cookies get trashed over looks alone made me decide that a baking 'win' is about flavor and joy, not Instagram perfection, so what's the most delicious thing you've ever made that looked like a total mess?

Okay but that baker's standards are why their stuff is SO good though. My best tasting cake was a lopsided disaster, but I still wish it looked better.

Ever notice how we're all trained to care more about looks than how things actually work? @mia_scott77 you're right, that baker's high bar makes the food amazing, but it feels like a trap sometimes. I see it everywhere, from perfect social media pics to fancy packaging on bad products. We end up missing out on good stuff that's just a little messy. Why do we let a lopsided cake trick us into thinking it's not as good?
