Pro tip: your oven rack might be in the wrong spot (mine was for a year).

My cakes kept getting dark tops and gooey middles until my neighbor in apartment 3B asked if I ever checked the manual. Has anyone else had a simple fix like that?

Honestly the rack position thing is a game changer, but also check if your oven runs hot with a cheap thermometer.

Oh yeah @lane.kim the thermometer thing is no joke. I spent a week wondering why my bread came out like hockey pucks. Turns out my oven runs 35 degrees hot, so I was basically baking everything at a slightly different temperature than I thought. Now I keep a cheap probe in there and just subtract 35 from whatever the dial says. My cookies thank me, even if my pride doesn't.

Actually the rack position is super important but the thermometer tip is even bigger. Most home ovens are way off, like 25-50 degrees hot or cold. Found that out the hard way with a batch of ruined cookies lol.
