Pound cake from my grandma's 1950s recipe vs a box mix I tried last month

I spent all Sunday doing a side by side bake because I got curious. The box mix was faster and came out fluffy but it tasted like nothing. My grandma's recipe took way more butter and elbow grease but the flavor was actually there. I don't know if I just got used to bland store bought stuff but it was night and day. Has anyone else gone back to an old family recipe and felt dumb for buying mixes for years?

Used to stress over baking until I tried box mix once in front of my own grandma's picture. She would have laughed too but probably just wanted me to eat the cake.
