My sourdough starter was taking like 14 days to get active

Turns out my tap water had too much chlorine... switched to filtered water and it came to life in 3 days flat. Has anyone else had their water mess up their starter like that?

Did you try letting the tap water sit out overnight before using it? That worked for me when my starter was being stubborn.

I left a pitcher of water out for 24 hours before using it and my starter finally took off after three failed attempts. It's funny how the simplest fixes like that solve so many kitchen problems.

Wait, is dechlorinating tap water really that serious? I just use basic tap water from the sink and my starters turn out fine most of the time. Maybe I'm just lucky or maybe people overthink this stuff. I get that chlorine could mess with the yeast a bit, but leaving water out for a whole day just seems like extra work for something that might not even matter. Honestly I'd rather just try a different flour or ratio before worrying about the water source.
