My sourdough starter turned into pink goo after 3 days
I tried to make my own sourdough starter from scratch last week and by day 3 it had this weird pinkish layer on top. I googled it and apparently that's a sign of some bacteria that you dont want in your bread. I was so excited cause I named it and everything but I guess I left it in too warm of a spot near my stove. My kitchen gets hot when I'm working the line and I didn't think about that before I set it there. Learned my lesson about keeping starters in a cool spot away from heat sources. Has anyone else had a starter go bad fast from kitchen heat?

oh man, the pink goo is the worst lol. i remember my first starter went that way too because i kept it literally on top of my fridge where all the heat kicks up from the back. i didnt even think about it until i came home from work and it was like a science experiment gone wrong. named mine gary and everything, felt like i lost a pet or something. now i keep mine in the cupboard away from the stove and fridge and its been going strong for like 6 months.
