Found out my oven temp was off by 50 degrees for a whole year

I bought an oven thermometer last week after my third batch of cookies came out flat and pale. Turns out my brand new stove was running 50 degrees cooler than what the dial said. All those burnt edges on my banana breads were actually undercooked centers from me cranking the temp up. Is there a way to calibrate these things or do I just need a new thermometer every few months?

Wait, 50 degrees? That's practically a whole different cooking method. Might as well just get a cheap oven thermometer and use it as your new dial.

Hold on, a whole year? That is an unbelievable level of bad luck. Your banana bread was living a double life, pretending to be burnt on the outside but sad inside. 50 degrees is a massive gap, basically you were baking at 300 when you thought it was 350. At least with the thermometer you found the problem before you wasted another year on flat cookies.
