Vent: Used to scrub dishes 20 minutes each, now I just soak them and my roommate lost it
My old routine after cooking was to stand at the sink and scrub every pot by hand for about 20 minutes until my arms hurt. These days I fill the sink with hot water and a splash of Dawn, drop everything in, and walk away for an hour. My roommate Marcus came home from his shift at the Amazon warehouse in Kent and yelled that I was "letting food rot in standing water." Honestly the crust slides right off after a soak, so is he just mad about the smell or does he have a real point here?
You said he came home and "yelled" about it, so is this really about the water or is something else going on with him? Because if you soaked one pot overnight and forgot it, that is one thing, but every single night leaving a full sink of dirty water sitting there for an hour does build up a smell in a small kitchen. Does he ever do his own dishes, or is he expecting you to keep doing all of them his way? That matters a lot here. If he never touches the sink but still has opinions about how you clean, that is a different problem than food actually rotting.
