Shed roof nearly caved in on me last Tuesday - caught it just in time
I was out back checking on my 10x12 shed after that big wind storm we had. I walk in and hear this weird creaking sound above me. Look up and see the roof decking is sagging about 4 inches in one spot. Turns out the rafters were only 16 inches apart but they used some kind of cheap 2x4s that were cracked and splitting. I had to rush and get some temporary jacks from Harbor Freight to hold it up before the whole thing came down. After that I pulled all the old rafters out and replaced them with proper 2x6s spaced 12 inches apart. Total cost was about $200 in lumber and took me a full weekend. Has anyone else dealt with a roof that was built way under spec like that?

Blew out my knee scrambling out from under my own shed roof last spring so honestly I feel this in my soul. Good call on upgrading to 2x6s man, way safer than what I did which was just duct tape and hope.

Busted my thumb trying to fix a gutter with nothing but a butter knife and spite...
