Rant: Prefab metal shed vs. building my own with wood was no contest
I spent $800 on a metal kit from Home Depot and three weekends fighting with warped panels and missing bolts. My neighbor framed his own 8x12 with lumber from a local mill for the same money and it's rock solid. Anyone else regret going the cheap route on a shed kit?

Funny you mention that, I just read a blog post from a guy out in Oregon who builds sheds for a living and he said the same thing. He swears wood is way easier to work with because you can actually adjust things as you go, but with a metal kit you're stuck with whatever they gave you in the box. My cousin did the metal route and ended up having to buy extra struts from the hardware store just to make the roof not sag. That budget build turned into a weekend project that took him a whole month.

Hey @nancyd85, did your cousin have to reinforce the whole roof or was it just a few spots that needed extra support? I'm wondering if metal kits just cheap out on structural stuff to keep the price low on the box.
