My father in law said build the shed floor with 3/4 inch plywood, not OSB

He told me OSB would swell up and rot within a year if it got wet. I figured he was just being old school and cheap, so I went with OSB anyway to save $40 on a 10x12 shed build last spring. Well guess who was under the shed yesterday pulling out floorboards that look like sponges after a few rainy months? He gave me that look like 'I told you so' and didn't say a word. Anyone else have a relative who was annoyingly right about building materials?

Learned that same lesson with a chicken coop floor. OSB looked fine for two months then turned into a sponge. Switched to pressure treated plywood on the rebuild. Never again.

Man, hard disagree @leo603. OSB is fine if you keep it dry and seal it right. Pressure treated is overkill for a coop floor unless you're literally flooding it. I've had OSB under a tarp for years and it's fine.

Man that sucks. I did the exact same thing with a little garden shed a few years back. Used OSB to save like thirty bucks and within six months the corners were all soft and bubbled up. My old man just shook his head when he saw it. He never said a word either, just handed me a pry bar. I ended up having to rip the whole floor out and start over which cost way more time and money than just buying the right stuff in the first place. Pretty sure he still brings it up every time we drive past that shed.
