Finished the cedar siding on my garden shed after a year of weekend work

I just put the last board up today and counted the pieces. I used 342 linear feet of rough-cut cedar, which is way more than I guessed when I started. It took me almost every Saturday from last spring until now, working a few hours at a time. The cost was high, but seeing it all done and knowing I did it myself feels great. Has anyone else tackled a big siding project and been shocked by the final material count?

Wow, 342 feet is a ton of wood! I once tried to build a simple planter box and ended up with enough leftover cedar to accidentally side a small doghouse (which I did not plan on building). That final count always sneaks up on you. Congrats on sticking with it for a whole year of weekends, that's some serious dedication right there.

Remember that feeling when you cut a board just a hair too short? I was helping my buddy frame a shed door and we messed up the header three times. Had to keep driving back to the lumber yard, each trip feeling more stupid than the last.
