Finally got my 10x12 shed roof to stop leaking after 3 tries
Three weekends back I noticed a wet spot on the OSB floor of my shed in Boise, right under the back corner where the roof meets the wall. I figured it was a flashing problem, so I pulled the old step flashing and redid it with new stuff, but the spot came back after the next rain. Second try I went up top and coated every seam with that brush on rubber stuff, which held for about 5 days and then started peeling in the sun. Last Saturday I finally got up on the roof with a hose and had my wife watch from inside while I ran water along the bottom edge, and we found it in 20 seconds. The leak was coming from two lifted shingle nails about 8 inches up the slope, not the flashing at all, and I patched them with a dab of roof cement. Total cost was about 9 bucks for the tube, way less than the 60 I wasted on that rubber coating. Has anyone else chased the wrong spot on a shed roof like this?
Wouldn't the real fix be pulling those nails and replacing them with longer ones so they can't pop again? A dab of cement will crack off in a year or two, so you'll be back up there before long.
