Appreciation post: my neighbor's tip about gravel under a shed pad actually held up after 2 winters

My neighbor Ray told me to dig out 4 inches and pack it with 3/4 inch crushed rock before I set my 10x12 shed, and I figured it was overkill until the ground froze and heaved around his old pad but mine stayed flat. Two winters later the doors still close without a shim, so now I'm curious how deep the rest of you go under a slab or skid foundation.
