Worst chicken day ever last Wednesday - lost two hens in one afternoon

I came home from work and found my Buff Orpington dead in the run and my Rhode Island Red missing. Turns out a raccoon dug under the fence during the day. Has anyone else had luck with electric fencing or is hardware cloth the only real solution?

Wait, raccoons dig under fences during the DAY? That’s bold. I learned the hard way too, buried hardware cloth a foot deep and haven’t had a single digger since.

Lost my whole flock to a fox last spring. Came out to feathers everywhere. My neighbor swears by those solar electric fences. Says it zapped a raccoon once and it never came back. I went with hardware cloth buried a foot deep under the coop. Pain to install but nothing gets through now.
