Vent: Neighbor told me I was feeding my hens WRONG feed for 2 years
Old guy down the street saw me pouring out layer pellets and said I was ruining my flock. He told me to switch to a fermented grain mix with oyster shells on the side instead. I was skeptical but tried it for 3 months and my chickens at 123 Oak Street lay way bigger eggs now. Anyone else got told they were doing something basic completely backwards?

The fermented grain mix is actually super interesting - did you notice any change in how much water they drink after switching? I've seen a few people claim that fermentation reduces water intake but I wonder if thats real or just bro science. Also how long did it take before you saw the egg size jump? I've been thinking about trying it but my girls are picky eaters and I dont want to waste a batch of feed if they just stare at it like its poison.
