The thing about putting straw bales around the coop in winter

I kept losing eggs to freezing last January, so I stacked straw bales against the north side of the run. It blocked the wind so well that my girls laid all through February, even when it hit 12 degrees at night. Anybody else try this or have a better way to keep the coop warm without adding heat lamps?

Double down on @faithj10's heat lamp idea but add a thermostat timer so it only kicks on below 20.

12 degrees outside my coop last winter and my heat lamp paid for itself in eggs in three days.
