The neighbor who told me my coop was "overkill" still bugs me

Last spring my neighbor saw me building a 6-foot run with hardware cloth all the way down and said I was wasting money, that chickens don't need that much. Three months later a raccoon dug under his wire fence and killed half his flock at 2am. I didn't say anything, but he stopped talking about my setup after that. Has anyone else had folks second-guess your predator proofing and then learn the hard way?
