That $40 predator apron was a total waste for my flock

I spent $40 on one of those heavy duty predator aprons that clips around the run base to stop digging. Figured it would keep raccoons and foxes out for good. First night I installed it, something still dug under a corner where the ground was a bit soft. I woke up to two of my hens missing and the apron just lying there twisted. Turns out the clips popped off when the animal pushed hard enough. I should have just spent that money on a concrete footer or buried hardware cloth a foot deep. Still kicking myself for trusting a fabric fix over real digging prevention. Anyone else get burned by a so-called predator proof product?

I tried laying down roofing tin once and the raccoons just pushed it up from underneath.
